Fudge - Brand and Digital

James Willstrop

Fudge and Willstrop
‘hit it off’, and pair up
in winning partnership.

Fudge have been tasked
with building the online
brand presence for British
squash star James Willstrop.

James is currently British
number 1, and ranked 3rd
in the world.

With a huge presence both
on and off the court and the
world-championships just
around the corner James
wanted to make sure that
he had a channel in place
where both fans and media
could keep up to date with
his activities; what better
place than online.

James Wilstrop says:
"For any sporting champion
your every-day life is more
or less taken up by training,
competing, carrying out
sponsorship obligations or
travelling to the next venue.

Being able to update and
communicate with the loyal
fan base is going to be
invaluable for me."

James is England’s most
successful junior of all time,
becoming the world’s top
- ranking Englishman just
two years after becoming
a senior player.

Bort

A little gem of an idea!

Almost all of the digital
work carried out by Fudge
involves the use of Ruby
on Rails in some way
or another.

The first steps of developing
an application often involve
installing the same set
of basic components time
after time.

To speed up this process,
Fudge have released a
free Ruby on Rails project
which provides it’s users
with a base application that
can save hours of up-front
development time.

We call it Bort (due to the
mild Simpsons obession
shared by our development

team) and it’s aim is to
save us, and many others,
the time it takes to get your
application off the ground.

You can download it from:
www.github.com

Feel free to give us feedback
through Github and don’t
forget, if you think it’s good,
but doesn’t do exactly
what you need, you can
easily fork the project with
your own Github account.

Bort has also been
mentioned in the latest
RailsEnvy podcast. Listen
to it here: Rails Envy.

Bolton Food Festival

‘Proof is in the eating’-
Fudge’s culinary success
is served.

Food lovers descended
on Bolton in their droves
last month to sample the
culinary delights of the
Bolton Food and Drink
Festival – following a highly
successful campaign.

This has been the first
year that the Festival has
taken on an identity of its
own – previously being
part of the Manchester
Food and Drink Festival,
traditionally held later on
in the year.

Fudge developed a fun,
highly visual multi-media
promotional campaign
based on the strapline

’Its Tasty Up North, to
generate mass consumer
interest and participation
in the event.

David Eccles, Fudge’s
MD explains; “Even though
previous festivals have
been successful, it was
vital to create a massive
buzz around this years
event, as there was to
be no spin – off from the
Manchester Food and
Drink Festival, as has
happened historically.”

The campaign was a
success – with packed
houses at all of the cookery
demonstration events and
high footfall being recorded
at the farmer’s market and
in the city’s eateries…

England Squash

Fudge serves new identity
for England Squash.

Award winning brand and
digital agency, Fudge has
been appointed to work on
the new identity and website
for sports association,
England Squash, as part
of a major marketing drive
to promote squash and
racketball, as ‘vibrant,
modern and professional’.

David Eccles, Fudge
MD comments,
"It’s a landmark brief –
and will be a fabulous
project to work on.

Squash is experiencing
a major resurgence, and
the England men’s and
women’s national teams
are the current World and
European Champions.

Hence, Fudge have
been briefed with creating
new branding that will
reflect England Squash’s
newly elevated status
on both a national and
international level."

Ben Taylor, England
Squash Marketing Co-
Ordinator comments

“The current England Squash
brand was developed
approximately six years ago,
and there is a strong desire
to modernise the brand and
for the new identity to reflect
the organisation in a more
effective manner.”

The recent Sport England Active People Survey (conducted by Ipsos MORI) revealed a large following for squash (500,000 adults take

part every month, making
it the country’s fifth most
popular organised sport
amongst adults).

Racketball is one of the
fastest growing sports in
the UK, and will play a vital
role in the development
objectives of England
Squash in future years.

and digital offer.”
